Your photo folders are full of copies you don't need. Duplicate Photo Finder walks your drives, groups identical and similar shots together, and clears the extras with one click — everything goes to the Recycle Bin, so nothing is permanently lost.
The app catches two kinds of duplicates. Exact duplicates are byte-identical files — the same photo saved twice, backed up multiple times, or copied from a phone to a folder. Exact matches are found by cryptographic hash, so there's no guesswork.
Similar shots are the harder problem: burst frames from your camera (5 nearly identical frames, you keep one), the same photo cropped differently, a screenshot sent through Messenger and re-saved, or a version you edited slightly. The app's perceptual hash mode catches all of these. You pick the mode before you scan.
The app groups copies side by side with full metadata so you can see resolution, date, and file size at a glance. It auto-picks the sharpest or highest-resolution copy in each group, so a one-click cleanup doesn't sacrifice quality.
Most people store 20–50 GB of duplicate photos without knowing it. Phone backups overlap with cloud sync, vacation folders get copied to external drives, messenger apps resave images, camera bursts pile up. That's wasted storage, paid cloud subscriptions you don't need, and clutter that makes finding real memories harder.
Moving duplicates to the Recycle Bin instead of hard-deleting them is the safe approach. You can still undo a mistake. The app never permanently shreds anything — that's a Windows action, and it stays under your control.
The app works entirely offline. It reads only folders on your PC — internal drives, USB sticks, external drives, network shares mounted as a drive letter. Cloud storage that isn't mirrored to disk is out of scope. No upload, no internet required, no telemetry.
Yes. Free forever, no trial limits, no Pro tier, no watermark, no locked features. MIT licensed, open source.
No. The app opens straight to the main window. No sign-up, no login, no email required.
Everything goes to the Windows Recycle Bin first. Open the bin and restore any file you want back. Permanent deletion only happens when you empty the bin, and that's a Windows action.
Yes. Windows 10 and Windows 11, 64-bit. Nothing else needs installing.
No. This is a local disk utility. It reads folders on your PC. If your cloud library is synced to a folder on your computer, it can scan that folder.
The first scan depends on folder size. Subsequent scans of the same folders are nearly instant because the app caches results.
